Chiropody in Barnsley

Chiropody (also known as podiatry) is the diagnosis and treatment by chiropodists (or podiatrists) of diseases and other disorders of the feet. Chiropodists are highly skilled health professionals who specialise in assessing, diagnosing and treating abnormalities and disease of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct these disorders, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain, treat infections and provide advice on correct foot care to patients.

At Western House Consulting Rooms in Barnsley our chiropodist provides treatment or advice on:

  • Toenail problems, such as thickened, fungal or ingrown toenails
  • Corns and calluses (hard skin)
  • Verrucas
  • Athelete’s foot
  • Dry and cracked heels
  • Flat feet
  • Bunions
  • Bacterial infections
  • Diabetes (foot related)
  • Smelly/sweaty feet
  • Long term management of chronic foot conditions

You may want to see a chiropodist for advice and treatment if you have painful feet, thickened or discoloured toenails, cracks or cuts in the skin, growths such as warts, scaling or peeling on the soles, or any other foot related problem.

Chiropodists also deliver foot health care education to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and those with special needs while working closely with medical practitioners i.e. orthopaedic specialists and GP’s.

Even if your feet are generally in good condition you might consider having a single session of chiropody at Western House in Barnsley to have the hard skin on your feet removed and toenails clipped or just to check that you’re looking after your feet properly.

What Happens at the Consultation?

At your first appointment our chiropodist at Western House Barnsley will usually cut your toenails, remove any hard skin and check your feet for other minor problems such as corns, calluses or verrucas. Usually any minor problems that are picked up can be treated on the spot. It’s usually completely painless (even pleasant!). If you are a new patient your appointment will last 30 minutes so the podiatrist can take a short medical history and any follow-up appointments afterward will last 20 minutes.

Our podiatrist is fully registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). If you would like any further information (including prices) or to book an appointment in a private comfortable treatment room, in our Barnsley health clinic, please call us on (01226) 730249.
