Sports Massage in Barnsley

Here at Western House Consulting Rooms in Barnsley we offer sports massage for a range of clients. Sports massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments through hands on techniques.

Despite its title, sports massage is not just for those undertaking exercise and athletic performance but also for those everyday aches and pains that anyone can develop. The therapy can be applied to the body as a whole or more commonly focuses on specific areas of discomfort (such as the legs or the back).

Benefits Of Sports Massage

Sports massage relieves tension and restores muscular and skeletal balance through;

  • Improving blood circulation
  • Removing waste products
  • Sedating (calming down) or stimulating nerve endings
  • Increasing or decreasing muscle tone
  • Increasing or decreasing muscle length
  • Preventing injury
  • Restoring mobility and range of movement
  • Pain relief

Is Sports Massage For You?

You do not need to be an athlete or take part in sports to benefit from a sports massage. It can help alleviate day to day issues such as repetitive strain injuries, lingering pain, tensions, sprains and fatigue.

However, for those people who do partake in physical exercise and sports it can be used to treat acute injuries. Sports massage can also improve flexibility and range of movement, aid recovery and enhance performance. Having a regular sports massage before a sporting event, during rehabilitation or after an event (such as a running competition) may help to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place.

Our massage therapist at Western House Consulting Rooms in Barnsley will be able to identify anyone for whom sports massage would be ill-advised or detrimental to their short term or long term well being. They will assess each client and provide the appropriate massage technique and advise on alternative action if required.

Our sports massage therapist at Western House is also an experienced Chartered Physiotherapist (Gaby Watkin). For further information or to book an appointment in one of our private clinic rooms contact us on (01226) 730249
